On staircases that lead to everywhere and the best deal in town

Tonight is the Akron Art Museum’s opening of the long-anticipated exhibit, M.C. Escher, Impossible Realities.

I am so excited about this! Escher was one of the handful of artists that, in my early years, made my mind, well, bendier. I got lost gazing into his work, trying to follow along (but not trying too hard) and dreaming of possibilities. He helped shape me.

So tonight is the preview party for the exhibit, and Jon and I are headed there to become members for the first time. (I can’t believe we’re not already members. Truly don’t know why we’re not yet.) But there’s added incentive for us to join tonight, and it may be intriguing enough for you to finally become a member of the museum and support this local lovely too.

For the price of a family membership (which is a steal at $65 for the year, people!), you also get this:
“Members have the exclusive opportunity to participate in a gallery tour with AAM Curator of Exhibitions Ellen Rudolph and Herakleidon Museum founders Paul and Belinda Firos at 7 pm.” (from the Akron Art Museum’s website.)

What? For 65 bucks, we get free admission to the museum for an entire year AND we get to go to the preview party for free for exhibits like these AND get to attend the preview tour with the curator of the exhibit and the owners of the collection?!

OK, sign us up! Jon and I are heading there tonight (you can join at the door too) and having ourselves one dreamy Valentine’s date night.
